Circus Valentine’s Day Party

Thanks to U.S. Toy company for sponsoring this post!

Step right up for a Circus Valentine’s Day Party! When it came time to start planning a Valentine’s Day party, I was a little stumped. I wanted to do something different and creative. Then one day while walking through U.S. Toy I came across their cute circus supplies and a light bulb went off. It could also be partly influenced by the fact that I’m reading The Night Circus. Or that P.T. Barnum is a distant relative. Either way, the Valentine’s Day Circus was born.

Welcome to the Valentine Bros. Circus!

Using U.S. Toy’s party supplies as inspiration, I designed some printables with some great Valentine’s Day-inspired puns (download the free printables below), threw in some carnival games and loads of treats to make a sweet and fun party for my kids and their little friends. Hope you enjoy it!

Our Circus Concessions

To keep things simple, we served store bought sweets mixed in with a few homemade treats.

The Izze sparkling pomegranate sodas were decorated with poms to resemble clowns!

A beautiful ruffled white cake from Mixing It Up, red velvet cupcakes, my homemade popcorn, glazed donuts and circus peanuts were set around the table.

I added a big lion to the top of the cake and twisted a tinsel pipe cleaner to resemble a hoop of fire. I also made smaller hoops for the cupcakes and topped with a package of smaller wild animals.

Decorations

One of my favorite ways to decorate a table is to use an antique window as a backdrop. It helps give the table a focal point, and you can hang small banners on it like I did with the heart banner.

Circus clown figures, an elephant and a milk bottle toss game from U.S.Toy were used as fun props.

My friend Tara of One Stylish Party sent over a gorgeous tissue paper garland in pinks, red and gold.

On a trip to Target, I found these heart pillows, and the colors were perfect. Complete impulse purchase, but I just knew I had to have them. Target, you got me again.

DIY Projects

Ages ago I bought this vintage traveling case knowing that some day I would put it to use, and finally I did when I became inspired by something I saw on Moonshine Vintage Rentals Instagram feed (@rentmoonshine, and don’t forget to follow me @3lmstudio). I picked up some gold ribbon and material from JoAnn’s and lined the inside of the case with them to create a fun party favor display. It was a super easy and no-sew craft.

Two years ago I made animal jars at my daughter’s pony party, and it was time to resurrect this sweet craft. This time I topped them with wild animal figures from U.S. Toy. I glued the animals to the lids and then spray painted them in a soft pink. A bit of gold ribbon wrapped around the lid added some extra pizzazz.

The chalkboard was picked up at Jo-Ann’s. I spray painted the frame with Rust-oleum’s gold glitter spray paint and used a chalkboard pen to write out “Please take one” in funky lettering.

Another fun craft is the Mini Circus Photo Booth. The kids got to play with fun clown bow ties and noses. To make the photo booth, I picked up a a vintage frame from a local antique shop and used leftover fabric and ribbon. I added a felt heart from U.S. Toy and some felt roses. The kids loved it! Well, except for Reese. If she has to stand too close to her sister, she might catch some terrible cooties. Ahhh, sisters …

To jazz up the milk bottle toss game, I used a package of red crepe paper streamers and made faux ruffles. There are lots of tutorials online, but it requires dusting off your sewing machine. So, I just folded it back and forth accordion style, tied a gold ribbon around and fluffed up my ruffles. Easy peesy.
