I was provided this toy from CP Toys to review, but I was not compensated for this review or my opinions.
This boy loves his blocks, so imagine how happy he was when he saw this box of giant blocks and was told he could build anything he wanted. Oh, happy day!
Zach dove in and began building right away, and that’s what is so great about this toy—no batteries or learning curve for mom, dad or the kids. Just a toy that is simple to play with and completely open ended.
Constructive Blocks come in a set of 12 or 24, and they offer endless hours of open-ended play. Children can let their imaginations run wild building castles, walls, towers and more. We’re even thinking beyond structures and using them as roads all over the living room for cars and trucks. Or you can just dive into a pile of them and be happy like Mr. Z.
When Reese got home from school, she dropped her stuff at the door and happily started helping Zach build a castle. It was so fun to see them use problem solving skills to build stable structures, figuring out how to incorporate openings for windows and doors in their structures, and to see their little imaginations working. I know this is something that will not only last (the blocks are so durable), but will also be played with again and again.
There’s some assembly to do when you open the box, and the instructions were a little confusing at first, but that was probably just because I’m the kind of person who rarely reads instructions and tries to dive right in. Just ask my husband. Once I took a moment to actually study the helpful illustrations that even say “Let’s read the instructions!” (whoopsie), I got the hang of it quickly and the blocks were assembled in no time. Lesson learned. Read them, people.
You would think something made out of cardboard wouldn’t be that sturdy, but these blocks can support 200 lbs. As you assemble them (instructions on the back of the box), you’re creating a support system inside that makes them crazy durable (see it in that photo above).
Things we love about Constructive Blocks!
- This set makes 24 blocks, so you can build some pretty big structures for little people! (A smaller 12-block set is also available.)
- These blocks can support 200 lbs. I told Zach not to stand on them, which he promptly did when I wasn’t looking, and they are still going strong and didn’t even buckle.
- I love the simplicity of this toy—no batteries, buttons or loud music, just simple blocks + imagination.
- The blocks are big! Dimensions of each block are 12″ x 6″ x 4″, so you can build some large structures.
- I love the retro packaging for obvious reasons! 😉
- Zach gives this toy two big boy thumbs up, and even the girls flipped out when they got home from school and saw it. No gender bias here.
And think beyond uses as a toy—these would be great stacked up for a party backdrop or as an activity at a construction party. Think outside of the box (OK, I couldn’t resist that one).
Many thanks to CP Toys for letting us review and love on these Constructive Blocks!
About CP Toys
CP Toys by Constructive Playthings is a branch of U.S. Toy Company that revolves around education and fun. Constructive Playthings began in the 1950’s when founder Frances Klein recognized a need for quality educational resources for educators.
The need for CP Toys was recognized in 2011 when many parents desired to offer their children an experience that was both educational and fun. The vast selection of educational toys that one would typically not find in a brick-and-mortar style toy store are educational in nature, but appear no different to the child than a standard toy. Many of the toys in the CP Toys line enhance kids learning through sensory details, active play, and imagination enhancing.
