Easy DIY Succulent Wreath

I was a bit lazy this Summer and left my 4th of July wreath up about six weeks too long. Whoopsie. So I decided to DIY an easy succulent wreath for my front door.

I’m still so very in love with succulents, but my green thumb isn’t quite what it used to be post kids and business, so faux is the way to go! And then I wouldn’t feel guilty when I forgot to water them. Another whoopsie.

This DIY succulent wreath is so easy to make. It took me around 25 minutes from start to finish.

Aren’t these faux succulents pretty? They look so real and have so much texture.

So let’s get started!

You need a few supplies

Take your burlap garland, fold it in half lengthwise as you go and wrap it around the foam ring. I folded the burlap in half so it would provide more coverage and added a bit of hot glue along the way to keep things in place. And don’t worry about it looking perfect. As you go, most imperfections are covered up and you want it to look rustic anyway.

I overlapped the burlap as I wrapped it around so that it covered the foam ring nicely. Repeat until you reach the end, glue that end down, and you should have something like this …

Looking good! And many thanks go out to my six year old hand model.

Now snip the stems off of your succulents.

Add some Spanish moss to the bottom of your wreath with more glue. Warning: this is messy, so do it outside or have that vacuum handy because it will get all over you and the floor. And while you are at it, take out any sticks and leaves you find in there and set aside for later.

Once that is done, start gluing down your succulents.

I started in the center and then began adding succulents to the left and right, filling in as needed. Then when I felt it was full, I filled it in with the sticks, leaves and bits of Spanish moss here and there until it looked natural.

Finally, I wanted to hang my wreath from the door, so I eyeballed a length of ribbon and glued it to the back of my wreath. Then I cut off a small strip of ribbon and glued it down over the ends to provide more support.

I’m a big fan of succulents, and I love your wreath! And I love that not only is it easy to make, but the faux succulents require no watering, too.

LOVE this! The wreath looks amazing! I wouldn’t have thought to use succulents on a wreath. Great job!
