It’s back to school time! And, there’s no better way to celebrate than with a fun school spirit party filled with yummy treats, toys and good friends!
My girls are obsessed with cheerleading and my son carries a football with him wherever he goes. So when it came time to plan our party, I decided to give it a pep rally look and incorporate their two loves!
When I started brainstorming, I came across a listing for school lockers in a local swap group. They were an unbelievable steal! I’d been looking for some forever for the kids to keep their coats and school gear in, so I jumped on it. And I just knew they would make a fun backdrop for our party too!
I also found this old school desk on Craigslist for my daughter’s room a few weeks ago and decided to use it to display our treats. Gives the party a nice old school feel.
With the furniture decisions made, I could focus on our menu. And since it was an afternoon party, I settled on a sweets table.
Jennifer of Mixing It Up made the cutest football cupcakes for our party.
They were so yummy and the kids loved the fondant footballs.
Chloe of Chlobugs Cookies made these cute football and cheer sugar cookies.
Aren’t they adorable? I might have eaten 2 or 5.
When it comes to a sweet table, one of my favorite tricks for keeping a budget in check is to only buy a few designer treats (like those above) and get the rest from the grocery store. It’s amazing what you can find, like the pretty coconut cake from the bakery department …
… and the cake pops I found in the freezer section.
And last but not least, add in a homemade treat or two. I made my famous popcorn, because my family is obsessed with this stuff. There’s really no recipe for it. I just throw together popcorn, nuts, candy and pretzels, and then drizzle it with melted almond bark. I put it in some wax paper bags and sealed them closed with some football stickers I made with my Xyron sticker maker.
We washed it all down with our favorite soda I displayed in a galvanized tub. Pretty sure it is a scientific fact that if you consume diet soda at the same time as cupcakes or cookies, they cancel each other out. True story.
To round out my theme, I headed into my local U.S. Toy for the good stuff—loads of spirit-themed decorations and novelties.
I picked up football plates and napkins (they have an awesome selection), pom-poms, whistles, megaphones, hand clappers, mini footballs, foam hands, and some football figures. Basically everything you need to cheer on your favorite team in every color imaginable!
I also DIY’d an easy no sew banner using oly*fun fabric, ribbon and a hot glue gun. And I added a few printables like the food labels and megaphone centerpiece too.
My girls had so much fun playing the part of cheerleaders at the party with some cute costumes. Goooooo team!
And Madeline really loved singing with a megaphone. I mean, really loved it. Um … it may go missing after bed time. Shhh!
And just in case you weren’t sure, we’re #1!
